Shabam!

The last night of the Curators in Residence (for myself) will be a night of spoken word and music madness. Fang (Barbara Adler's new duo, gotta see it to believe it) will throw down some accordion/drum anarchy, the Candelabra Collective will disgust you with their youthful talent, and I'll do a solo set (maybe with a choir, this is still being worked out).

"One of the most prolific artists in the city...a charmingly silly creature who also strives for deeper significance." - Georgia Straight

Brendan McLeod is a writer and musician. A former Canadian SLAM poetry champion, his first novel was nominated for a 2007 Re: Lit Award. His music group The Fugitives have toured internationally and were nominated for a 2008 Canadian Folk Music Award. His first play just premiered last month at the Cultch; people seemed to like it.

The Candelabra Collective
www.myspace.com/candelabracollective
The Candelabra Collective is made up of six celestial bodies with a common passion for spoken word, and all the places performance poetry has yet to be taken. Brought together by the Cultch’s spring IGNITE! Youth Intensives, all six poets flourished under the mentorship of epic notable figures such as Barbara Adler, Brendan McLeod, and RC Weslowski. The collective genius of Natalie Gray, Adrick Brock, Keely O’Brien, Kelsey Savage, Francis Arevalo and Jess Wallin will expand the poetic horizon right in front of your eyes. Don't blink - this shit is magic.

Fang

Fang is ...Vancouver's premier accordion and drums duo, featuring Barbara Adler (vocals, accordion) and Ben Brown (drums, vocals). Fang is the White Stripes, wisely exchanging their guitar for the magic of a shiny red and white accordion. Patti Smith meets Geoff Berner, meets a bottle of cheap rum. Bass, snare, tambourine, and lots of flailing. Fang is punk yells, pop choruses, audience yelp-alongs, and fast-running vocals. Surprisingly little polka. Fang will change how you feel about the accordion.
