Apr 13–24 @ 8 PM Matinees: Apr 17 & 24 @ 2 PM No performance Apr 18 & 19 In 2004, Neworld Theatre premiered their “war on terror” satire Ali and Ali and the aXes of Evil at The Cultch. Since then, it has been produced and presented across Canada and around the world, from Seattle to the Czech Republic, from Toronto to Victoria, and every province in between (except Manitoba, but whatever). And now, Ali and Ali creators Camyar Chai, Guillermo Verdecchia and Marcus Youssef turn their idiosyncratic brand of post-identity satire to the whole new world: the global economy has tanked, the President of the World’s middle name is Hussein and, in Canada, five Arab/Muslim men continue to be without charges, having no access to the evidence against them. Not to mention the soon to be subjugation of Western peoples at the hands of the Red Chinese. How do you deal with all that? Easy: go see Ali and Ali! Hey, if it’s smart to give the morons who invented Credit Default Swaps hundreds of billions of dollars in taxpayer money, then two refugees from the well-known Middle Eastern Country of Agraba* (and their new show Hey Brother (Or Sister), Can You Spare Some Hope and Change?) are just what the doctor ordered. *See Disney’s Aladdin. About Ali and Ali and the aXes of Evil: “The smartest Canadian political play of the 21st century, and the funniest.” - Vancouver Province “Ali & Ali and the aXes of Evil must be the funniest exposition of American foreign policy ever devised. But it isn’t just funny. It is also troubling and poignant.” - Seattle Post-Intelligencer |
