CHOREOGRAPHED BY LOLA MACLAUGHLIN
This celebrated work from choreographer Lola MacLaughlin looks at modern society’s relationship with the natural world—our dominance and commodifcation of nature contrasted with her great power and beauty.
An eclectic collection of choreographic landscapes for five dancers, Provincial Essays is infused with a movement vocabulary inspired by observations of the natural world. Born out of investigation into our emotional and physical terrain, MacLaughlin’s choreography represents landscapes embedded with persistent and inevitable obsessions.
Featuring Alison Denham, Caroline Farquhar, Susan Kania, Ziyian Kwan and Ron Stewart, Provincial Essays integrates video and scenic elements designed by media artist Andreas Kahre, a collage of found sounds and music by Brent Belke and lighting by James Proudfoot..
