BY SCOTLAND’S LEADING PLAYWRIGHT
DAVID GREIG & SINGER/SONGWRITER
GORDON MCINTYRE
“The most ambitious play writing on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe” - The New York Times
It’s Midsummer’s weekend in Edinburgh. It’s raining. Two thirtysomethings are sitting in a New Town bar waiting for something to turn up. He’s a failing car salesman on the fringes of the city’s underworld and she’s a high-powered divorce lawyer with a taste for other people’s husbands. She’s out of his league and he’s not her type at all. They absolutely should not sleep together. Ever.
Which is why they do.
Midsummer is the story of Bob and Helena and a great lost weekend of bridge burning, car chases, wedding bust ups, bondage miscalculations, midnight trysts and horrible hung over, self-loathing misery.
“All the classy poise and exuberant bounce of a really good pop song…Midsummer is utter, joyful pleasure” – The List
**** [4 Stars] “With its gently poignant pop songs (written by Gordon McIntyre of Edinburgh indie band Ballboy), and honest humour, it's rough, ready - but still romantic...a glorious beginning for the Cultch's new digs.” - The Globe and Mail
“…an exhilarating, Dionysian ride.” - The Georgia Straight
