Studio 58
BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.
WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.
This multi-media stage adaptation imaginatively interprets George Orwell’s timeless and prophetic masterpiece. In the bleak society of Oceania, under the constant surveillance of Big Brother and the Thought Police, lowly worker Winston Smith engages in a dangerous and forbidden love affair with Julia. How will they survive in the dystopian world where true love is forbidden and punishable by death?
1984 is adapted for the stage by Andy Thompson and is co-produced by The Virtual Stage (“Outstanding Production” and “Critics’ Choice Innovation Award” for No Exit, co-produced with Electric Company Theatre) and the legendary professional theatre training program Studio 58 at Langara College ("One of the strongest training programs on the continent" - Georgia Straight). Ron Jenkins, the renowned and multi-award winning director of The Black Rider and Bash’d is at the helm.
Starring Alex Ferguson as Winston Smith; featuring the senior students of Studio 58.
Warning: This show contains nudity, strong language, non toxic haze, strobe lights, and graphic depictions of violence. Parental guidance is recommended. This production is intended for adult audiences only, ages 14+.
