BMO Financial Group donates $50,000 to the Vancouver East Cultural Centre

VANCOUVER – The Vancouver East Cultural Centre (otherwise known as ‘The Cultch’) is thrilled to have the support of BMO Financial Group. Rob Serraglio, Vice President, Personal Banking, Greater Vancouver, BMO Bank of Montreal, today announced funding of $50,000 for The Cultch.

“BMO Financial Group is very pleased to provide this significant gift to the Vancouver East Cultural Centre’s capital campaign to revitalise one of the most influential and loved arts spaces in the city,” said Mr. Serraglio.

The funding, allocated to phase 1a of The Cultch’s capital project, will enable the performing arts centre to construct Canada’s first LEED-certified arts centre (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

The Cultch began construction in September of 2007, marking the first of two phases and the development of a modern 3-story building. This new addition will feature an 80 seat flexible studio theatre, public washrooms, lobby space, dressing rooms, an elevator and office space. It is scheduled to be completed in July 2008.

“We are so excited that construction has finally begun,” said Heather Redfern, executive director of The Cultch. “With this contribution from BMO, we are well on our way to creating a space that we hope will help alleviate the lack of cultural venues in Vancouver and heighten our patrons’ performance experience when they come here.”

Since its founding in 1817 as Bank of Montreal, BMO Financial Group has been committed to corporate and social responsibility and the principles of sustainable development. In 2006, BMO contributed $32.1 million in corporate donations, sponsorships and events, supporting communities and thousands of charities and not-for-profit organizations across Canada.

BMO has been helping local communities thrive for 190 years. As one of Canada's largest and oldest businesses, BMO Financial Group believes it has a key role to play in helping to ensure that Canada's cities, towns and communities remain strong and vibrant.  And the support of arts and culture is a most desirous way to keep communities vibrant.
