The Cultch Announces Year 10 of Alcan Performing Arts Award: Dance 2009
VANCOUVER - The Vancouver East Cultural Centre (The Cultch) is pleased to announce the tenth anniversary of the Alcan Performing Arts Award: DANCE 2009. This $60,000 production fund is open to performing arts companies resident in British Columbia, rotating annually between Dance, Theatre, and Opera/Music. This year's competition is open to dance companies. Application forms are available on The Cultch's website. The deadline for all submissions is Friday, December 14, 2007 at 5pm.
The Alcan Performing Arts Award was conceived to recognize the achievements of British Columbia performing arts companies and to foster the creation of new work by providing a significant financial investment in a new production by the chosen company. DANCE 2009 celebrates the tenth round of the award, and a decade of outstanding artistic innovation in British Columbia.
The award is administered by the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, and selection is made by an independent panel of judges. The premiere (four performances) of the selected production is presented at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre as a key component of the award, and takes place in February of the year following the announcement of the chosen company.
Recipients of the Alcan Performing Arts Award to date have included The Holy Body Tattoo (2000), The Electric Company (2001), Modern Baroque Opera Company (2002), battery opera (2003), Boca del Lupo (2004), The Hard Rubber Orchestra (2005), Kidd Pivot (2006), neworldtheatre (2007), and Vancouver New Music (2008).
