Play your truth!
VANCOUVER - This hot jazz musical brings Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong to life. Through a
powerful original jazz score, a live three-piece orchestra, and a story that
captures your heart, director Hans Böggild
brings us a dynamic theatrical relationship between a modern-day
classical cellist and the Father of Jazz himself. For details, click here >>
HISTORY
Originally produced at Mulgrave Road Theatre in 1995 as a one-person
show, The Satchmo' Suite made audiences
laugh, cry and cheer through two tours of the Maritimes. During 2003/04,
co-writers Hans Böggild and Doug Innis
expanded the production to include an ensemble cast of five, along with nine
original jazz songs. The current production premiered at Eastern Front Theatre in March 2005 and
broke attendance records, receiving instantaneous standing ovations every night
of the run. It was then remounted in 2006 for a sold out run at the Neptune Studio Theatre in Halifax, featured at
the prestigious Magnetic North Theatre
Festival in St. John's Newfoundland where it received accolades from
audiences and critics alike, and presented as part of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts theatrical
season in Montreal, where it received rave reviews and more standing
ovations.
